The Spring Reset
A good time to clear a little space and refocus on what matters.
Welcome back to Mind by Fire.
Spring is close.
A lot of people use this time of year to reset things around the house. Clean up a few areas, get organized, throw out things that aren’t useful anymore.
It’s a simple idea, but it works.
And it’s not a bad time to do the same thing in other parts of life too.
Sometimes we pick up routines, distractions, or habits that slowly take up space without us really noticing.
Every once in a while it helps to pause and ask:
What’s actually worth keeping?
Brain-Based Insight
Your brain is constantly adjusting to how you live.
There’s a process called synaptic pruning where the brain strengthens connections that get used often and lets weaker ones fade.
In simple terms, the brain keeps what you practice.
The routines you repeat.
The thoughts you return to.
The things you give your attention to.
Those pathways get stronger over time.
But the encouraging part is this works both ways.
You’re not locked into old patterns.
When you start putting your energy into something different — getting outside more, moving your body, cooking real food, learning something new — your brain begins strengthening those pathways instead.
It doesn’t take some dramatic life overhaul.
Most of the time it starts with one small shift that you repeat consistently.
Your brain pays attention to what you practice.
So if there’s something in your life that feels a little off right now, the solution usually isn’t complicated.
Start putting your attention on what you want more of.
And your brain will start building around that.
Reset Ritual
If you want a simple reset, try this.
Remove one thing.
Something that drains your time or attention.
Keep one thing.
A routine that actually improves your life.
Add one thing.
A small action that moves you forward.
That’s it.
You don’t need to rebuild everything.
Just make one or two adjustments and give them some consistency.
Small changes tend to create more momentum than big plans.
Grounded Reflection
Most meaningful changes in life don’t start with huge decisions.
They start with small adjustments.
You remove something that isn’t helping.
You protect something that is.
You add one thing that moves you forward.
And over time those small choices shape how you live.
So if the season changing has you thinking about resetting a few things, don’t overcomplicate it.
Just start small.
Your brain will do the rest.
Ignite Recovery Update
Last weekend we hosted the latest Ignite Recovery Chili Cook-Off, and it was a great day.
What started as an idea to bring people together through cooking is quickly turning into something bigger. Teams showed up with their best chili, people hung out, music was playing, and the whole place had the kind of energy you hope for when you put an event like this together.
But the best part wasn’t just the food.
It was seeing people from sober living homes, friends, and community members all spending time together around something simple — cooking and sharing a meal.
A special thank you to Sweet Sugar High for serving brisket sliders, and to Nomad Grills for sponsoring the People’s Choice prize.
My vision for Ignite Recovery is big — it’s the only way I know how to think about it. One day I hope to have an open land headquarters where we can host events, cooking demos, and cooking classes all in one place.
For now, we’re building it one event at a time.
And I’m glad you’re here to watch it grow.
