Overdose Awareness: Building Bridges in Recovery

On recovery, family, and the power to rewire.

This week’s newsletter looks a little different. In honor of Overdose Awareness Day, I want to pause from the usual format and share why recovery—and the work we do through Better Days Sober Living matters so deeply to me.

I am not in recovery myself, but I’ve been deeply affected by family who have struggled with addiction. I know what it’s like to see the pain up close, to want to help, and to feel the weight of not being able to fix it. A big part of my passion is helping those in recovery—or anyone ready for a life change—find the support, structure, and community that makes transformation possible.

Insight

Overdose Awareness Day reminds us of a truth many families know too well: addiction is never fought alone. Families carry the weight—watching, worrying, and often feeling powerless to help. For the person struggling, the cycle can make them pull away from the very people who love them most. Families want to believe, but trust has been broken.

That’s why I founded Better Days Sober Living. Our homes aren’t just about sobriety—they’re about rebuilding lives and repairing relationships. While residents live with us, they learn responsibility, structure, and accountability. Families begin to see consistent change. Trust, little by little, starts to return. In that sense, sober living becomes the bridge—connecting a painful past to a future where families can heal together.

This belief runs parallel with what I share in Mind by Fire: the principle of neuroplasticity. The brain is built to change. With new thought patterns, daily habits, and mindset shifts, old destructive cycles can be rewired into something stronger. Addiction may be part of the story, but it doesn’t have to be the ending.

🔥 Ignite Recovery

Recovery grows stronger when it’s shared. That’s the heart behind Ignite Recovery—a BBQ and open-fire fellowship.

This week, I’m officially launching this initiative in partnership with the recovery community. Together, we’re putting the vision into action and building something that can grow far beyond one house or one table.

Around the grill, something powerful happens: walls come down, conversations open up, and laughter mixes with the smoke in the air. Cooking and eating together reminds us that recovery isn’t just about staying sober—it’s about rediscovering joy, belonging, and life itself.

Ignite Recovery is more than meals—it’s a spark. A spark that builds community, fuels hope, and shows that life in recovery can be full, meaningful, and alive.

This week, as we recognize Overdose Awareness Day, I invite you to reflect:

  • Who in your life needs to be reminded they are more than their addiction?

  • Where can you show up with encouragement and patience?

  • How can you be part of building the bridge back to family trust and connection?
